Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy aims to provide you with a safe environment to explore difficult or confusing aspects of your life
and to work towards integrating them into a meaningful sense of self. This safe space is built around a trusting, non-judgmental, and confidential relationship. The psychotherapeutic process moves at a pace that suits you and can be steered in the direction you find most beneficial, whether you wish to focus on the past, present, or future.

We often go through life without giving ourselves much time to reflect on the challenges that are thrown our way.
We all find ways of adapting to these challenges and getting on with things, though sometimes these patterns of behaviour linger long after those challenges have disappeared. We can be left with ways of behaving that are stuck in the past, still responding to obstacles that no longer exist. This can leave us feeling that something is not quite right, fueling a desire for other ways of being.

Voyages are accomplished inwardly, and the most hazardous ones, needless to say, are made without moving from the spot.

HENRY MILLER

Issues

I work one-to-one with a broad range of issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, ill health, sexuality, gender, relationship issues, loss, identity, self-esteem, addiction, psychedelic integration, existential concerns, stress, and the many problems that come with being human. If you are not sure whether psychotherapy can help you do not hesitate to contact me.

First Steps

Beginning therapy can be the most difficult part. Often we are expected to be able to do things all on our own. Reaching out for help is not easy and in the past we may have reached out and gotten hurt. Added to this the anxiety around meeting a new person. These things are taken into consideration in the first session and it is really about getting to know one another. The core of therapy is a good working relationship so it is important to find a therapist that you can build this trust with, in a way that works for you.

Humanism

I work from a humanistic perspective. This approach understands that you are the most knowledgeable about your own life. I cannot offer fixes or advice on what is best, but rather I will collaborate with you on what the aim of the therapy is and how to proceed at a pace that is comfortable. The aim is to make sense of your life in a way that is meaningful to you.

The Body

The body is an integral part of being alive. It is that which sustains us and allows us to experience and connect with the world. Being a body brings with it certain challenges like mortality, illness, stress, but also freedom, beauty, and pleasure. There is a strong connection between how our body is and how we experience the world.

Creativity

Creativity is a fundamental impulse that is required to navigate the complicated events of life. Often this can become blocked as we are required to respond in specific ways to specific events, perhaps in order to fit in or to maintain order. One of the aims of psychotherapy is to reestablish creativity so that we can adapt to life and access new ways of being. Being creative is not limited to art or music but appears in how we think, interact, and dream.

Philosophy

I have always been drawn to philosophy as a means of inquiring into human thought and questioning the world. The philosophical traditions of the world offer beautiful and diverse ways to think and to see. Trying to understand different views and articulating our own is an important part of life.
